Cranberry Apple Stuffing is a hearty, flavorful side dish that pairs beautifully with roasted meats, holiday feasts, or a cozy dinner.

Packed with tart cranberries, sweet apples, and savory herbs, this stuffing is a delicious twist on the classic comfort food.

  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking dish (9×13 inch)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Wooden spoon or spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of crusty bread (about 10 cups), cubed and slightly stale or toasted
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 apple (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), diced
  • ½ cup dried cranberries
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves (or ½ tsp dried thyme)
  • 1 tsp fresh sage, chopped (or ½ tsp dried sage)
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 ¾ cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 large egg, beaten

Directions

  1. Prepare Bread Cubes
    • If the bread is fresh, cut it into cubes and toast in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10–15 minutes until slightly crisp. Let cool.
  2. Cook Aromatics
    • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Add onion and celery, and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
    • Stir in diced apple, cranberries, thyme, sage, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2–3 more minutes.
  3. Combine Ingredients
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes with the sautéed mixture. Toss to combine.
  4. Add Liquid
    • Whisk together the chicken or vegetable broth and the beaten egg. Pour over the bread mixture, stirring gently to moisten evenly.
  5. Bake the Stuffing
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Transfer the stuffing mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
    • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
    • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the top is golden and crisp.
  6. Serve
    • Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh thyme or sage if desired.
