Kitchen Equipment Needed
- Mixing bowl
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Stand mixer with dough hook (optional)
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Pastry brush
- Small saucepan
Ingredients
For the Breadsticks:
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add the softened butter, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
- Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough comes together and is soft but not sticky. If using a stand mixer, use the dough hook and knead for about 5 minutes. If kneading by hand, knead on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Breadsticks:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 7-inch-long breadstick and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Second Rise:
- Cover the breadsticks with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes, or until puffy.
- Bake the Breadsticks:
- Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Prepare the Garlic Butter Topping:
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in the garlic powder and salt.
- Finish the Breadsticks:
- Brush the hot breadsticks with the garlic butter topping as soon as they come out of the oven.
Enjoy these Olive Garden Breadsticks as irresistibly soft and buttery delights that bring the taste of a favorite restaurant right to your home!
