Lasagna is a classic Italian dish that’s hearty and comforting, perfect for family dinners or special occasions. It’s not overly complicated to make either. I think it’s a perfect dish for any time of the year, and if you’re not a fan of ricotta cheese, feel free to substitute it with cottage cheese.

It will still be undeniably delicious! If you’re looking for a rich & savory meal that’s not overly complicated, you’ve come to the right place. When you layer tender lasagna noodles with a robust meat sauce and creamy cheese, you get the perfect dish. The addition of mozzarella just sends it over the top. I’ve really been in the mood for a comforting meal, and this classic lasagna hits the spot. Not a fan of ricotta? Don’t worry, it’s still delicious with cottage cheese.

Kitchen Equipment Needed:

  • Large skillet
  • Large pot
  • Mixing bowls
  • 9×13 inch baking dish
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Aluminum foil
  • Oven

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Meat Sauce:
    • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
    • Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
    • Stir in the marinara sauce, season with salt and pepper, and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  2. Cook the Noodles:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay them flat on a baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  3. Prepare the Cheese Mixture:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
  4. Assemble the Lasagna:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
    • Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread one-third of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by one-third of the meat sauce.
    • Repeat the layers twice more, ending with a layer of meat sauce.
    • Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
  5. Bake the Lasagna:
    • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
    • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Let it Rest and Serve:
    • Allow the lasagna to rest for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
    • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Enjoy your Easy Homemade Lasagna as a delicious and comforting meal that’s perfect for any occasion!
