Prepare the Garlic Butter:
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add minced garlic and garlic powder. Cook gently until fragrant, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
Form the Patties:
Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a thin patty, about 4 inches in diameter. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
Toast the Buns:
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Brush the insides of the buns with the prepared garlic butter and toast them in the skillet until golden. Remove and set aside.
Cook the Patties:
Increase the heat to medium-high and place the patties on the hot skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side, pressing them gently with a spatula to create a nice sear.
Add Cheese:
In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on half the patties. Stack the plain patties on top of the cheese-covered patties to form double burgers.
Assemble the Burgers:
Brush the toasted buns with a little more garlic butter. Place the double patty stack on the bottom bun. Add any desired toppings like lettuce, tomato, or onions. Top with the remaining bun.
