Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Large pot
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Mixing spoon or spatula
  • Cheese grater (if shredding cheese fresh)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni or penne pasta
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • 1 can 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional garnish: Chopped parsley or green onions

Instructions

  • Cook the Pasta:
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Brown the Beef:
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  • Prepare the Sauce:
  • Reduce the heat to low and add the tomato sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the skillet with the beef. Stir well to combine and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Combine Ingredients:
  • In a large mixing bowl (or directly in the skillet, if large enough), mix the cooked pasta, beef sauce mixture, and sour cream. Stir until the pasta is fully coated.
  • Assemble the Casserole:
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Transfer the pasta mixture into the dish, spreading it evenly. Top with 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Bake:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
