Kitchen Equipment Needed:
- Deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot
- Slotted spoon
- Mixing bowl
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
Ingredients:
For the Churro Bites:
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For Coating:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions:
- Prepare the Churro Dough: In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball of dough and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Add Eggs: Add the eggs, one at a time, stirring vigorously after each addition until fully incorporated. The dough will become smooth and glossy.
- Heat the Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Pipe the Dough: Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 1-inch pieces of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cutting them with scissors or a knife.
- Fry the Churro Bites: Carefully place the piped dough into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove the churro bites from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: In a mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Toss the fried churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the Sweet and Salty Churro Bites warm and enjoy their crispy exterior and fluffy interior. These mini treats are best enjoyed fresh, but they can also be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
