Easy Turtle Bars Recipe

Easy Turtle Bars are delightfully rich and chewy bars that are filled and topped with luscious caramel, crunchy pecans, and decadent chocolate. They’re not overly complicated to make either. I think they’re a perfect anytime treat, and if you’re not a fan of pecans, feel free to use your favorite nuts.

They will still be undeniably delicious! If you’re looking for a simple and indulgent dessert that’s not overly fussy, you’ve come to the right place. When you make a buttery shortbread base and pair it with gooey caramel, crunchy nuts, and a drizzle of chocolate, you get the perfect bar. The addition of chocolate and caramel just sends it over the top. I’ve really been in the mood for a sweet treat and these dreamy bars remind me of classic turtle candies. Not a fan of pecans? Don’t worry, they’re still delicious with any nut you prefer.

Kitchen Equipment Needed:

  • 9×13-inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer
  • Saucepan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the bars out easily after baking.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and salt until creamy and well combined. Gradually mix in the flour until the dough comes together.
  3. Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan to form the crust. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, honey, and heavy cream. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and let it boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped pecans.
  5. Pour the caramel-pecan mixture over the baked crust, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbling and has darkened slightly. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
  7. Once the bars have cooled, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cooled bars.
  8. Let the chocolate set before lifting the bars out of the pan using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares or bars.

Enjoy these Easy Turtle Bars with a glass of milk or a cup of coffee for a truly indulgent treat. They’re perfect for satisfying any sweet craving and are sure to become a favorite!
