Kitchen Equipment Needed:
- Large bowl
- Whisk
- Deep frying pan or Dutch oven
- Tongs
- Wire rack
- Paper towels
- Measuring cups and spoons
Ingredients:
- 8 pieces of chicken (drumsticks, thighs, wings, or breasts)
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Directions:
- In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- In another large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
- Remove the chicken from the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place the chicken pieces into the hot oil, a few at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 12-15 minutes for drumsticks and thighs, and 8-10 minutes for wings and breasts. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Use tongs to transfer the fried chicken to a wire rack set over paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving to ensure it remains juicy on the inside.
Enjoy this Crispy Juicy Fried Chicken with your favorite sides for a truly satisfying meal!
