Classic Pea Salad is a delightfully simple yet flavorful dish that brings together the crisp sweetness of peas with a creamy dressing. It’s not heavy or overly complex either.

I think it’s a perfect side dish for summer picnics or barbecues, and if you’re not a fan of mayonnaise, feel free to use a Greek yogurt-based dressing instead. It will still be undeniably delicious! If you’re looking for a light & refreshing salad that’s not overly complicated, you’ve come to the right place. When you combine tender peas with crisp vegetables and a creamy dressing, you get the perfect salad. The addition of a tangy dressing just sends it over the top. I’ve really been in the mood for summer to arrive, and this vibrant salad reminds me of sunny days and outdoor gatherings. Not a fan of mayonnaise? Don’t worry, it’s still delicious with a yogurt-based dressing.

Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula or spoon

Ingredients

  • 4 cups frozen peas, thawed
  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, diced
  • 1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a lighter option)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Prepare the Peas: Place the thawed peas in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Chop the Vegetables: Finely chop the red onion and celery, then add them to the bowl with the peas.
  3. Add the Cheese: Dice the cheddar cheese into small cubes and add to the bowl.
  4. Make the Dressing: In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt), apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Pour the dressing over the pea mixture. Gently fold the dressing into the peas, vegetables, and cheese until everything is well coated.
  6. Chill: Cover the salad and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Serve: Give the salad a quick stir before serving and adjust seasoning if necessary. Enjoy this fresh and creamy side dish!

This Classic Pea Salad is sure to be a hit at your next gathering, offering a refreshing and satisfying complement to any meal.
