Amish White Bread is a delightfully soft and fluffy bread that’s perfectly sweetened with a touch of sugar. It’s not heavy or overly sweet either. I think it’s a perfect everyday bread, and if you’re not a fan of sweetness in your bread, feel free to reduce the sugar.

It will still be undeniably delicious! If you’re looking for a light & airy homemade bread that’s not overly complicated, you’ve come to the right place. When you make this soft and spongy Amish white bread, you get the perfect slice for sandwiches, toast, or just enjoying with a spread of butter. The addition of a bit of sugar just sends it over the top. I’ve really been in the mood for a comforting, homemade bread, and this dreamy loaf reminds me of cozy kitchens and homemade meals. Not a fan of sweetness? Don’t worry, it’s still delicious with less sugar.

Kitchen Equipment Needed:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or dough hook
  • Loaf pans (9×5 inch)
  • Plastic wrap or clean kitchen towel
  • Wire cooling rack

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 cups bread flour

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, and then stir in the yeast. Allow to proof until the yeast resembles a creamy foam, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Mix in the salt and vegetable oil into the yeast mixture.
  3. Begin adding the flour, one cup at a time, mixing well with each addition. Once the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment.
  4. Place the dough in a well-oiled bowl, and turn to coat the surface. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
  5. Punch the dough down, and divide it in half. Shape each half into a loaf, and place in greased 9×5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes, or until dough has risen about 1 inch above the pans.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake the loaves in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the loaves sound hollow when tapped.
  8. Remove the loaves from the pans and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Enjoy the soft and fluffy perfection of Amish White Bread, a homemade classic that’s sure to become a family favorite. With its simple preparation and delightful taste, it’s a bread that’s both comforting and versatile!
