Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or use honey/agave syrup for natural sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter You can substitute melted butter for added flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s directions.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until blended.
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs, then add milk, vegetable oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. It’s okay if there are a few lumps.

Cooking

  • Lightly grease the waffle maker if necessary and pour batter according to the instructions, usually around a cup per waffle.
  • Close the lid and cook for about 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.

Serving

  • Carefully remove the waffles and serve hot with your choice of toppings.

Notes

For the best results, avoid over-mixing the batter to keep the waffles fluffy. You can store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 2 months.
