  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter Natural is best
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Use a low-sodium version
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup For a vegan option
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Adjust to taste
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Preparation

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the creamy peanut butter, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir until you have a cohesive mixture.
  • Add the minced garlic and crushed red pepper flakes to the bowl.
  • Gradually add water to the mixture as you stir until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Taste your sauce and adjust with more honey, soy sauce, or red pepper flakes for additional sweetness or heat.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with crushed peanuts, lime wedges, or fresh cilantro if desired.

Notes

For a nut-free version, substitute peanut butter with sun butter or tahini. Make ahead and refrigerate for up to a week. Always taste as you go for best results.
