  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for less grease.
  • 1 medium onion, diced Brown onions with beef for added flavor.
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup You can substitute with your favorite cream soup.
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables Peas and carrots work well.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese Cheddar is recommended.
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots Ensure they are completely frozen before baking.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season as preferred.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture, cream of mushroom soup, and frozen vegetables. Mix until everything is evenly coated.
  • Spread the beef and vegetable mixture evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top.
  • Arrange the frozen tater tots over the cheese layer, covering as much of the surface as possible.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the tater tots.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and place it in the oven. Bake for about 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For perfect crispiness, ensure tater tots are frozen before baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 2-3 months.
