  • 2 large large onions (yellow or sweet varieties) Sliced into thin rings
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For sautéing
  • ½ teaspoon salt To taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper To taste
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional) For extra flavor

Preparation

  • Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, aiming for about ¼-inch thick pieces.
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  • Place the sliced onions in the skillet and add the salt and black pepper. Stir well to coat the onions with the oil and seasoning.
  • Allow the onions to cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until they turn golden brown and caramelized.
  • If desired, stir in the balsamic vinegar in the last few minutes of cooking for added flavor.
  • Once caramelized, remove the onions from the heat and serve them warm.

Notes

Choose sweet or yellow onions for best flavor. Cook slowly for perfect caramelization and consider adding herbs for extra flavor.
