Ingredients
  

For the Cracker Base

  • 1 package rectangular crackers (like Saltines or wheat crackers)

For the Caramel

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed Ensure it's packed well.

For Topping

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips Ensure Halal certification.
  • 1 cup crushed nuts Optional for added texture.
  • to taste pinch sea salt Adjust according to preference.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Lay the rectangular crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Making Caramel

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.
  • Add the packed brown sugar and stir continuously until the mixture begins to boil.
  • Let it boil without stirring for about 3 minutes.

Combining and Baking

  • Carefully pour the caramel mixture evenly over the crackers.
  • Bake the crackers in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes.
  • Remove the baking sheet from oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over the caramel, allow to soften, then spread evenly.
  • Finish with a sprinkle of sea salt.

Cooling

  • Allow the mixture to cool completely (approximately 30 minutes) before breaking into pieces.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Make sure to not overcook the caramel to avoid burning.
