Ingredients

For the Base

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Topping

  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup (ensure it’s Halal-certified)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
  • Stir in the melted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of a greased 9×9-inch baking pan. Bake for 10 minutes.

Make the Topping

  • In another bowl, mix the brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Stir in the chopped pecans.

Assemble and Bake

  • Pour the pecan mixture over the baked crust, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes or until the topping is set and golden brown.

Cool and Cut

  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares.

Notes

If you’re looking for a nut-free version, try using sunflower seeds in place of pecans. Keep an eye on the baking time; the bars will continue to set as they cool. Ensure your butter is fully melted before mixing to avoid a crumbly pie crust. To store, cover with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container.
