Ingredients
  

For the base

  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers These provide a crunchy base for the caramel.

For the caramel

  • 1 cup unsalted butter Melted for the caramel.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Packed brown sugar for sweetness.

For the topping

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips Add on top of the caramel.
  • to taste Sea salt Sprinkle on top before cooling.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper and arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Stir frequently until the mixture starts to boil and become bubbly, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Once bubbling, continue boiling for one minute without stirring.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully pour the caramel mixture over the lined crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  • Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes until the edges look bubbly and the crackers are golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the hot caramel. Allow them to soften for a few minutes, then spread the melted chocolate into an even layer.
  • Lightly sprinkle sea salt over the melted chocolate.
  • Let the entire mixture cool until set, about 30 minutes in the refrigerator, then break into pieces.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Refrigerating extends shelf life without compromising texture.
