Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1/2 cup milk (warm) Make sure the milk is at a warm temperature to activate the yeast
  • 1/4 cup honey (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted) Substitutions: use olive oil or margarine if out of butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, 1/4 cup of honey, and sugar. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and melted butter, mixing until fully incorporated.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Baking

  • Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle. Cut it into strips and then roll each strip up to form a bun.
  • Place the buns in a greased baking dish, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for about 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • While the buns are cooling, mix 1/4 cup honey with a little warm water to thin it out, then drizzle over the warm buns.

Notes

Store buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, refrigerate for a week, or freeze for up to 3 months. To reheat, place in microwave for 15-20 seconds or warm in the oven at 350°F (175°C). Drizzle extra honey before serving for a fresher taste.
