Ingredients
  

For the cake

  • 4 medium medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced Use a mix of sweet and tart apples
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the topping

  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce store-bought or homemade

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a medium bowl, toss the thinly sliced apples with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and set aside.

Batter

  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix this into the butter mixture until combined.
  • Gently fold the cinnamon-coated apple slices into the batter, being careful not to break them apart.

Baking

  • Spoon the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Serving

  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
  • Drizzle warm caramel sauce over the top just before serving.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or freshly whipped cream. Store leftovers wrapped in plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to five days.
