Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the sourdough starter, warm water, olive oil, salt, and garlic powder. Mix well until combined.
  • Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the mixture, kneading it gently until it becomes a soft and elastic dough.
  • Gently fold in the shredded cheese, ensuring it is evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangular shape, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • With a knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into evenly-sized strips.
  • Place the strips on a lined baking sheet, ensuring there is space for them to rise.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cheesy.
  • Remove from the oven, let them cool slightly, and enjoy the warm and cheesy goodness!

Notes

For perfect breadsticks, avoid overkneading the dough, and ensure your sourdough starter is active. You can substitute the cheese with pepper jack for some heat or a mix of cheeses for unique flavor.
