Ingredients
  

For the patties

  • 1.5 pounds Ground beef Use lean beef for a healthier option.
  • ½ cup Bread crumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper

For the gravy

  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 1 packet Gravy mix Your choice of brand.
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil For browning the patties.

For the onions

  • 1 medium Onion, thinly sliced For layering in the slow cooker.

Instructions
 

Preparation of Patties

  • In a bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and shape into patties.

Browning the Patties

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties to the skillet and sear on both sides until browned (about 3-4 minutes per side).

Slow Cooker Layering

  • Place the sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker. Next, add the browned patties on top of the onions.

Preparing Gravy

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth and gravy mix until smooth. Pour the mixture over the patties in the slow cooker.

Cooking

  • Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 3-4 hours. The steaks should be tender and the flavors well-merged.

Serving

  • Once cooked, serve the Salisbury steak topped with caramelized onions and gravy. It pairs wonderfully with mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. This dish also freezes beautifully. Ensure it is well-sealed before freezing.
