  • 2 lbs ground beef Choose lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed 15 oz can
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed 15 oz can
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder Adjust to taste for more heat.
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Preparation

  • Begin by dicing the onion and mincing the garlic.

Cooking

  • In your slow cooker, add the ground beef, crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, diced onion, garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Stir to ensure that all ingredients are well combined.
  • Cover and cook on low for about 6 to 8 hours, or on high for 3 to 4 hours.
  • Before serving, taste your chili and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  • Ladle the chili into bowls and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

Serve with cornbread, tortilla chips, Mexican rice, or a fresh green salad. Experiment with adding different spices or ingredient substitutions to suit your taste.
