Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds cube steak Pounded thin for tenderness
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For dredging
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For frying
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • Fresh parsley For garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Season cube steaks with salt and pepper. Dredge each steak in flour, shaking off the excess.
  • In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  • Add the dredged cube steaks to the skillet. Sear for about 4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the sliced onions. Cook until softened, around 5 minutes, while scraping up any flavorful browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  • Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme. Stir well to combine and bring to a simmer.
  • Return the cube steaks to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Cover and simmer on low heat for about 10-15 minutes until the steaks are tender and the flavors meld together.
  • Remove from heat and serve garnished with fresh parsley over rice or mashed potatoes.

Notes

For ingredient substitutions, soy sauce or balsamic vinegar can be used in place of Worcestershire sauce. Consider marinating cube steaks for enhanced flavor. Avoid overcrowding the skillet when browning the steaks.
