Ingredients

Meatball Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken or turkey or your choice of ground meat
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water for thickening
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, green onions, garlic, ginger, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Using your hands, roll the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a lined baking sheet.

Cooking

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 15-20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown.
  • While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, mix together the soy sauce, honey (or maple syrup), sesame oil, rice vinegar, and bring to a simmer.
  • Mix the cornstarch with water and add to the sauce, stirring constantly until thickened.
  • Once the meatballs are cooked, toss them in the sauce until they are beautifully coated.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top and serve hot over rice or with steamed vegetables.

Notes

To avoid dense meatballs, avoid over-mixing the meat mixture. Experiment with flavors by adding a splash of chili sauce or different herbs like cilantro for an extra kick. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, reheating over low heat.
