Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh mushrooms (button, cremini, or your favorite variety), cleaned and sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (or butter, if preferred)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or 1 tablespoon fresh thyme)
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by cleaning the mushrooms with a damp paper towel to remove any dirt. Avoid soaking them in water, as mushrooms are sponges and will absorb it. Slice them evenly to ensure even cooking.
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. You want it sizzling hot but not smoking.
  • Once the oil is hot, add your sliced mushrooms. Don’t overcrowd them! If necessary, sauté in batches.
  • Let the mushrooms cook undisturbed for about 5-7 minutes. This helps them develop a lovely brown crust.
  • Once browned, give them a stir and season with salt, pepper, and garlic. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the garlic is fragrant.
  • Sprinkle in the thyme and stir to combine. Continue cooking for another minute until the mushrooms are tender and deeply flavorful.
  • Transfer to a serving dish, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and enjoy hot!

Notes

For variations, feel free to mix different mushrooms for unique flavors. Ensure your pan is hot enough before adding mushrooms to prevent steaming and promote browning. Store cooled mushrooms in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge, or freeze for up to 2 months.
