Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 4 cups ripe pears, peeled and chopped Use fresh, ripe pears for the best flavor.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar Helps in preserving and thickening the jam.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Adds a tangy brightness that balances the sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional) Adds warmth to the flavor profile.
  • 1 pouch fruit pectin (such as Sure-Jell)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Peel and chop your ripe pears into small, uniform pieces.

Cooking

  • Place the chopped pears into a large pot. Add the lemon juice and cinnamon (if using). Cook on medium heat until the pears soften, about 10-15 minutes.
  • Stir in the granulated sugar and the pouch of fruit pectin. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly to prevent it from sticking.
  • Once boiling, allow it to boil for 1-2 minutes or until the mixture thickens significantly. You can test the consistency by spooning a bit on a plate and letting it cool.

Jarring

  • Remove from heat and pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about ¼ inch of space from the top. Wipe the rims of the jars clean and seal them.

Cooling

  • Allow jars to cool at room temperature before storing them in the refrigerator. For longer storage, consider canning methods.

Notes

For a unique twist, you can jazz up your pear jam with optional ingredients like cinnamon or vanilla. Properly stored pear jam can last about 3-4 weeks in the refrigerator or can be frozen for up to a year.
