Ingredients
  

For the Patty Melt

  • 1 lb Ground beef Formed into patties.
  • 2 medium Onions Cooked until caramelized.
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese To melt on patties.
  • 8 slices Rye bread For grilling.
  • 4 tbsp Butter For grilling the sandwiches.
  • 1/2 cup Secret sauce Made of mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and spices.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Cook onions in a skillet over medium heat until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  • Form ground beef into 4 patties and cook them in the same skillet until done, about 5-7 minutes per side.
  • Place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of each patty to melt.

Grilling

  • Butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
  • Assemble the sandwiches with patties, caramelized onions, and secret sauce between two slices of rye bread.
  • Grill the sandwiches in the skillet, buttery side down, until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.

Serving

  • Serve the patty melt hot off the grill, optionally with fries, salad, or pickles on the side.
  • Provide extra secret sauce as a dipping sauce for enhanced flavor.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat in a skillet or toaster oven to maintain crispness.
