Ingredients
  

For the meatballs

  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley Fresh parsley recommended for best flavor.
  • 1 large egg Acts as a binder for the meatballs.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Gives a more robust flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust according to preference.

For assembly

  • 1 jar marinara sauce (24 oz) Choose your preferred brand or homemade.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Can substitute with provolone or fontina.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  • Using your hands, form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Cooking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  • While the meatballs are baking, slice your hoagie rolls in half and place them on another baking sheet.
  • Once the meatballs are fully cooked, place several meatballs in each roll. Pour marinara sauce over the meatballs and top with a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
  • Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes.
