Preparation

  • Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water, ensuring they are clean. Remove any stems or damaged berries.
  • In a saucepan, combine the rinsed cranberries, fresh orange juice, orange zest, sugar, and water.

Cooking

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat. Allow it to come to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  • As the cranberries begin to pop, let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. The sauce will thicken as it cools.

Serving

  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature before serving. It can be served warm or refrigerated for later use.

Notes

For those who prefer a tangier sauce, reduce the sugar and adjust to taste. You can also infuse flavors using spices like nutmeg or ginger for added warmth. This sauce can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
