Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds beef (flank steak or chuck, thinly sliced) Opt for flank steak or chuck for the best flavor and tenderness.
  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets Use fresh broccoli; frozen may become mushy.
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup beef broth Ensure it’s Halal-friendly.
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (grated)
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch (for thickening, optional)
  • Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by slicing the beef against the grain into thin strips for tenderness.
  • Wash the broccoli and set it aside.

Create the Sauce

  • In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, minced garlic, and grated ginger until the sugar is dissolved.

Load the Crock Pot

  • Place the sliced beef in the crock pot and pour the sauce over it. Stir to coat all beef strips evenly.

Cook

  • Cover and cook on low for about 6 hours or high for about 3 hours. Cooking on low is recommended for more tender meat.

Add Broccoli

  • In the last 30 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets.
  • If you want the sauce thicker, mix cornstarch with a little water and stir it into the sauce just before serving.

Serve

  • Over cooked rice or noodles, spoon the beef and broccoli mixture. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top if desired.

Notes
