  • butter or oil Optional, for flavor.

Preparation

  • Wash the potato under cold water to remove dirt and scrub gently. Pat dry.
  • Pierce the skin several times with a fork to prevent bursting.
  • Season the potato with a sprinkle of salt or coat lightly with butter or oil if desired.

Cooking

  • Place the potato on a microwave-safe plate and microwave on high for 5 minutes.
  • Check for doneness by squeezing gently. If still firm, continue microwaving in 1-minute increments.
  • Once soft, remove the potato and let it rest for a minute before unwrapping.

Serving

  • Slice the potato open, fluff the insides with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

Store cooked potatoes in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month. To reheat, microwave again until warmed through, adding a splash of water if needed.
