  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup

Cooking Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil for frying Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Whisk them together until mixed thoroughly.

Combine Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, eggs, and maple syrup until well-blended.

Form the Dough

  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. The dough should be moist but not overly sticky; avoid overmixing.

Shape the Donuts

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters (one larger and one smaller) to cut out donuts and holes.

Heat the Oil

  • In a deep skillet or fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). It’s important to maintain this temperature for the perfect fry.

Fry the Donuts

  • Carefully drop a few donuts into the hot oil, frying only a few at a time. Cook them for about 1 to 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove and place them on a paper towel-lined plate.

Serve with Love

  • Drizzle with additional maple syrup or your choice of toppings once cooled. Enjoy this sweet treat with your family!

Notes

Consistency is key: Ensure your dough isn’t too sticky. If it is, consider adding a bit more flour. Don’t skip checking the oil temperature, as too hot will burn the donuts and too cool will make them greasy. Play with flavors by adding vanilla extract or using flavored syrups for glazes! Don’t throw away the doughy centers! Fry them as bite-sized treats—they're delicious!
