Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh salmon fillet Always opt for fresh salmon fillets when possible.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Preferably fresh.
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley or dill, chopped You can use either parsley or dill.
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream Use for garnishing or mixing in the batter.
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • as needed for frying Vegetable oil Generous amount needed for frying.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Remove the skin and bones from the salmon fillet. Chop it into small pieces or pulse it in a food processor until it’s finely minced.
  • In a large bowl, combine the minced salmon, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, fresh herbs, egg, sour cream, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  • With your hands, shape the mixture into small patties. Aim for a thickness of about ½ inch to ensure they cook evenly.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, heat a generous amount of vegetable oil over medium heat.
  • Carefully add the patties to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the patties from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain the excess oil. Serve immediately, garnished with a dollop of sour cream or a sprinkle of fresh herbs.

Notes

Serve with creamy mashed potatoes, a crisp green salad, or a refreshing cucumber and tomato salad. Consider pairing with a bowl of borscht for an authentic experience.
