  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup ensure it's Halal
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • Sea salt for sprinkling

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  • Spread the pretzels evenly on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Stir until it comes to a gentle boil.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and baking soda. Be cautious, as the mixture will bubble up.
  • Immediately pour the caramel over the pretzels, ensuring each one is coated. Use a spatula to help spread the caramel if necessary.
  • Bake the pretzels in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning. The caramel should be bubbly and slightly golden.
  • Once removed, let the pretzels cool for a few minutes, then sprinkle with sea salt while still warm.
  • Allow the caramel pretzels to cool completely at room temperature before breaking them apart.

Notes

For a Halal-friendly sweetener, consider using agave syrup instead of corn syrup. Baking times may vary; ensure the saucepan is large enough to prevent spillage.
