Ingredients
  

For the crust

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour Measure accurately for best results.
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed Use cold butter for a flaky crust.
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 4-5 tablespoons ice water Add gradually until dough comes together.

For the filling

  • 6 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and sliced Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for best flavor.
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Helps maintain apple color.

For the streusel topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add the ice water until a ball forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a separate bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice until well coated. Set aside.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place the dough into the pan and trim any excess.
  • Pour the apple mixture into the prepared crust.
  • In a small bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon until crumbly. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  • Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or chilled with whipped cream. Optional: add nutmeg or ginger to the apple filling for extra flavor.
