Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef steak (flank steak or sirloin), sliced thinly against the grain Choose flank steak for tenderness.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional) Adds extra flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For cooking.
  • 1 bell pepper (red, green, or yellow), sliced into strips
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by slicing the beef thinly against the grain.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, black pepper, and cornstarch. Let it sit for about 10 minutes while you prep the vegetables.

Cooking

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes or until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Toss in the sliced bell pepper and onion; stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften. Add in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • Return the beef back to the skillet, and pour in the beef broth and oyster sauce (if using). Stir well to combine, allowing everything to simmer for 5 more minutes. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt as needed.

Serving

  • Remove from heat and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with green onions if desired!

Notes

Choose the right cut of meat and avoid overcrowding the skillet for the best sear. Customize by adding your favorite vegetables or spice to your taste.
