Apple Layer

  • 4 large apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled and sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (for natural sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt To taste

Topping

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup pecans (roughly chopped) Can substitute with almonds or walnuts
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil or unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional, adjust to taste)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with honey (or maple syrup), cinnamon, and a sprinkle of salt. Ensure the apples are well-coated.
  • Place the apple mixture evenly in a greased baking dish (around 9x13 inches).
  • In another mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, chopped pecans, whole wheat flour, brown sugar (if using), baking powder, and salt. Stir until mixed.
  • Pour in the melted coconut oil and stir until the mixture is crumbly.
  • Spread the oat-pecan topping evenly over the layer of spiced apples.

Baking

  • Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

Serving

  • Allow it to cool slightly before serving. It pairs beautifully with your favorite Halal vanilla ice cream!

Notes

For variations, consider adding spices like nutmeg or vanilla extract. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days and reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
