Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups 100% whole wheat flour Use high-quality whole wheat flour for best results.
  • 1.5 cups warm water About 110°F.
  • 2 tablespoons honey Can substitute with sugar.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Can substitute with any vegetable oil.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Regular table salt works well.
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast Ensure it is fresh for best rise.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, combine warm water, honey, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with the olive oil.
  • Mix until combined, then knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until it’s smooth and elastic.

Rising

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  • After the first rise, punch down the dough to release any air bubbles. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  • Cover it again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until it’s about an inch above the rim of the pan.
  • While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Baking

  • Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes until it’s golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For perfect bread, knead until smooth and elastic. Store sliced bread wrapped tightly in plastic wrap for 3-5 days. For longer storage, freeze slices up to 3 months.
