Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a muffin tin.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder until well mixed.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, stirring until just combined. Don't overmix!
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Spread a thin layer of your desired filling across the rectangle, then fold the dough into thirds, like a letter, and roll it out again. Repeat this process one or two more times to create layers.
  • Cut the dough into triangles. Starting from the base, roll them up into a cruffin shape and place the rolled dough into the muffin tin.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  • Allow cruffins to cool for a few minutes before enjoying them warm.

Notes

For Halal-friendly options, consider using dairy-free butter or other plant-based options. Storing tips: Keep your cruffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze them for up to 2 months.
