Danish Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (thawed)
  • 1 cup cream cheese (softened) Make sure it's softened for easy mixing.
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup apples (peeled and diced)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup espresso (or strong coffee)
  • optional powdered sugar for dusting Use if desired for serving.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  • In another bowl, combine diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and espresso. Stir until the apples are evenly coated.
  • Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into square shapes (approximately 4x4 inches).
  • Place a generous spoonful of cream cheese filling in the center of each pastry square. Top with a spoonful of the apple mixture.
  • Fold the corners of the pastry over the filling to create a pocket. Pinch the edges to seal securely.
  • Brush the tops of the pastries with beaten egg to give them a nice golden color when baked.
  • Place the assembled Danishes on your prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Allow them to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm and enjoy every delightful bite!

Notes

Make sure your cream cheese is softened for a smooth filling. Don't overfill your pastries to avoid them bursting during baking. Experiment with flavors by adding nuts or caramel sauce. Check your Danish a few minutes before the recommended baking time to avoid over-baking.
