Ingredients

For the Baklava

  • 4 pieces English muffins, split in half
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (or pistachios) Use fresh nuts for optimal flavor.
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup honey This sweetens the baklava.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar Optional for dusting before serving.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange the split English muffins on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  • In a bowl, combine chopped walnuts, cinnamon, and a tablespoon of melted butter, mixing well.

Layering

  • Place half of the toasted muffins in a greased baking dish. Spread the nut mixture evenly over the muffins, then drizzle with half of the melted butter.
  • Top with the remaining half of the muffins, drizzle with the remaining melted butter, and press down gently.

Baking

  • Bake the dish in the oven for 20-25 minutes until the top is crispy and golden brown.

Honey Syrup

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, vanilla extract, and a splash of water. Stir until well mixed and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Once the baklava is out of the oven and slightly cooled, pour the honey syrup evenly over the top.

Serving

  • Let it sit for a few minutes, slice into squares or triangles, dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve.

Notes

For the best flavor, use fresh nuts and watch the baking time carefully. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven for a delightful crunch.
