Ingredients
  

For the crust

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Sift before measuring for accuracy.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure the butter is at room temperature.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Packed lightly when measured.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances the sweetness.

For the caramel

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup Or Halal syrup for alternatives.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Or coconut cream for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the topping

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans Or any nuts of your choice.
  • Optional: a pinch of sea salt for garnish To enhance flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line your baking dish with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, and a pinch of salt.
  • Add softened butter and mix until crumbly. Press the mixture into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.

Baking the Crust

  • Bake the crust for 15 minutes or until slightly golden.

Making the Caramel

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup corn syrup, and 1/2 cup heavy cream, stirring continuously until the sugar dissolves.
  • Allow the mixture to boil without stirring for about 5 minutes, until it thickens slightly, then remove from heat and add vanilla extract.

Assembling the Bars

  • Pour the caramel over the baked crust, spreading it evenly.
  • Sprinkle chopped pecans on top, followed by chocolate chips.

Final Bake

  • Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 10-12 minutes, until the chocolate chips are melted.

Cooling and Cutting

  • Remove from the oven and let it cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

Feel free to substitute nuts and adjust for dietary preferences. Sea salt adds an intriguing flavor.
