Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large large eggs Fresh is best!
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Opt for a Halal-certified brand.
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar Adds a touch of acidity to the marinade.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Balances the saltiness of the soy sauce.
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil For an aromatic finish.
  • 2 pieces green onions Chopped, for a fresh topping.
  • to taste sesame seeds Optional, for garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by bringing a pot of water to a gentle boil. Carefully lower the eggs into the water and boil them for exactly 6-7 minutes for that perfect soft-boiled texture.
  • While the eggs are boiling, fill a bowl with ice and cold water. This will stop the cooking process and make peeling easier.
  • Once the time is up, immediately transfer the eggs into the ice bath for about 5 minutes.
  • Gently tap the eggs and peel them under cold running water for ease.
  • In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and sesame oil. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Place the peeled eggs in the marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and let them soak for at least 15 minutes.
  • For best results, marinate for a couple of hours in the fridge or even overnight.

Serving

  • Once marinated, slice the eggs in half, sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, and enjoy!

Notes

Timing: Adjust the boiling time based on how runny you want your yolks. Less time means runnier yolks, and more time makes for firmer ones. If you have leftover eggs, keep them in the marinade in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Feel free to experiment with different types of vinegar or add spices like chili flakes to the marinade for extra flavor.
