Ingredients
  

For the cake

  • 1 cup unsalted butter Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs At room temperature.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Sifted.
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk At room temperature.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans Can be substituted with walnuts or almonds.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Use any flavor if desired.
  • 1 cup caramel sauce For drizzling on top.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a sheet cake pan.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • In another bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk and vanilla, until just combined.
  • Fold in the pecans and chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, let it cool slightly, then drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Drizzle with more caramel sauce for extra sweetness. Pairs well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
