Ingredients

Pears

  • 4 cups peeled and sliced fresh pears (or canned pears, drained) Bosc and Bartlett pears work wonderfully for this recipe.

Cake Mix and Toppings

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Do not skimp on the butter for a perfect crust.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) Can be replaced with chocolate chips.
  • 1 cup brown sugar (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • If you’re using fresh pears, peel, core, and slice them thinly. If using canned pears, drain well and roughly chop if they’re large.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced pears with ground cinnamon and toss to coat evenly. If desired, mix in chopped nuts for added crunch.
  • Spread the pear mixture evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the pears without mixing.
  • Evenly drizzle the melted butter over the dry cake mix, ensuring it covers as much as possible. Sprinkle brown sugar on top if desired.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the pears are bubbling.
  • Allow the cake to cool slightly before serving warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Drizzle with caramel sauce for an extra touch.
