  • 8 ounces whole wheat pasta Your choice of pasta
  • 2 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Use good quality extra-virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Adjust according to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes Optional, for a spicy kick
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Optional, for garnishing
  • to taste Salt and pepper To season the dish
  • to taste Lemon zest For extra flavor

Instructions
 

Cooking

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Add the whole wheat pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  • Reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta water, then drain the pasta.
  • In the same pot, add the broccoli florets to the boiling water and cook for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the broccoli and set aside.
  • In the pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  • If using red pepper flakes, add them in now for a spicy kick.
  • Return the drained pasta to the pot, along with the cooked broccoli.
  • Stir in the reserved pasta water gradually until you achieve your desired consistency.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.

Serving

  • Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and lemon zest for a refreshing burst of flavor.
  • Enjoy your meal while it’s fresh!

Notes

To enhance flavors, consider adding toppings like fresh grated Parmesan cheese, toasted garlic, or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
