Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 1 packet instant yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ¼ cup olive oil (plus some for drizzling) Ensure olive oil is Halal-certified.

Topping Ingredients

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix the warm water and yeast together. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • Stir in the flour, salt, and ¼ cup of olive oil until a dough forms.

Kneading

  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

First Rise

  • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until it has doubled in size.

Shaping

  • Once risen, gently punch it down to release the air. Transfer it to a greased baking sheet and stretch the dough to fit the pan.
  • Create dimples in the surface with your fingers.

Seasoning

  • Drizzle more olive oil over the top, sprinkle the minced garlic, oregano, and grated Parmesan evenly. Top with coarse sea salt.

Second Rise

  • Let the focaccia rest for about 20-30 minutes to rise slightly again.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the focaccia for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Cooling and Serving

  • Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, and slice into squares. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!

Notes

Top Tips: For a different flavor, try using freshly chopped herbs or chili flakes as toppings. Ensure proper rising times for the best texture, and avoid a too-hot oven to prevent burning.
