Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.
  • Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  • Stir in the boiling water until well combined. The batter will be quite thin.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  • Once cooled, frost with your favorite chocolate frosting or enjoy it plain.
