Ingredients
  

For the Filling

  • 1 lb pizza dough store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup pepperoni slices
  • ½ cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 each egg, beaten for egg wash
  • to taste Italian seasoning optional
  • for brushing each olive oil

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle, about ¼ inch thick.
  • Spread the ricotta cheese evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Layer the mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices over the ricotta, adding Italian seasoning if desired.
  • Starting from one edge, carefully roll the dough into a log, tucking in the filling as you go. Pinch the edges to seal.
  • Place the rolled Stromboli on a parchment-lined baking sheet, seam-side down.
  • Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  • Make a few slits on top of the Stromboli to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing into generous pieces.
  • Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Customize your fillings with vegetables or different cheeses. Don’t skip the egg wash for shine. Watch the bake to prevent burning.
