  • 2 large onions, sliced into rings Peel and separate the rings.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 2 large eggs Whisked for coating.
  • 1 cup bread crumbs Panko works great for extra crunch.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Feel free to substitute with Halal-friendly cheese.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • as needed Oil for frying Ensure the oil is hot before frying.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
  • In one bowl, place the flour; in a second bowl, whisk the eggs; and in a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Coating

  • Coat each onion ring in flour, then dip it into the egg mixture, and finally coat it well with the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Before frying, place a small amount of shredded mozzarella cheese inside each onion ring. Gently press to create a 'cheesy hug' for each ring.

Frying

  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the onion rings in batches. Fry until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove the onion rings and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  • Let them cool slightly, then serve your Easy Cheesy Onion Rings with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For alternatives, consider using cheddar or spicy pepper jack cheese. Watch the frying time to ensure the rings don't overcook.
